二十ねんごのあたし

はじめましてみなさん。わたしはカレナ・ジモマンです。二十ねんごのわたしはだれですか。二千十三年にわたしは四十さいですからたいへんです。やくしょくがあります。だいがくではたらきたいです。せかいをみたいです。今わかいですが二十ねんごのわたしはあまりわかくないです。うみがすきですあらうみのちかくのしいさいうちにすみたいです。おきなわのてんきはいいです。そしてハワイのてんきもいいです。てんきはとてもあたたかいです。

せんしゅうのまつ〜

こんにちはみなさん！おげんきですか。せんしゅうのまつはコロンビアだいがくのあきやすみでした。あきやすみは土曜日から火曜日までです。わたしは金曜日にクラスをありませんからわたしのあきのやすみは金曜日から火曜日までです。

わたしはきにょうびからかようびまでまいばんえいがをみました。きんようびのえいがは「千と千尋の神隠し」。「千と千尋の神隠し」はみやざきはやおのえいがです。そしてえいがはとてもたのしいです。

土曜日と日曜日はそつぎょうろぷん(thesis)をかきました。わたしのそつぎょうろぷんはむずかしですが、たのしいです。わたしは日曜日のばん「となりのトトロ」をみました。わたしは「となりトトロ」

きょうとあしたはにほんごとかんこくごのテストがありますから月曜日と火曜日にとしょかんでべんきょうしました。きょう、かんこくごのテストはあまりむずかしくないです。じゃ、あしたはもうひとつテストありますからとしょかんへいきますくあ。ありがとうございました。じゃ、またらいしゅう。ーカレナ

Last Week!

こんにちはみなさん！カレナです。おげんきですか。わたしはせんしゅうとてもいそがしいです。ことしにほんごとかんこくごをべんきょうします。そしてことしろんぷんをかきます。せんしゅうのげつようべいからもくようびまでかんこくごをべんきょうしました。わたしのかんこくごテストはあまりむずかしいです。せんしゅうのきんようびにごぜんじゅうじからごごろくじまではたらきました。

せんしゅうのどようびにどこえもいきませんでした。りょうでにほんのえいがをみました。にほんのえいがは「もののけ姫」をみました。「もののけ姫」はとてもゆうめいなえいがです。そしてたのしいです。みやざきはやおのえいがです。「もののけ姫」はことしにほんのアンスロポロジークラスのえいがです。

せんしゅうのにちようびにわたしはとてもいそがしいでした。ごぜんくじにおきました。そしてごぜんじゅうじにとしょかんへいきました。としょかんでしゅくだいをしました。ごごいちじいかんこくごとにほんごのしゅくだいをおわりました。そしてひるごはんをたべました。ごごにじゅにろんぷんをべんきょうしました。ごぜんいちじにねました。いまコーヒーのみます。

Binge Watching: Episode One

こんいちはみなさん！せんせんしゅうまつどこへもいきませんでした。ごぜんじゅじにおきました。そしてごごじゅうじにねました。せんしゅのげつようびとかいようびにクラスへいぢませんでした。

Hello, everyone! So, two weekends ago I caught a really bad flu and missed class last week Monday and Tuesday. When I was sick, I couldn't mentally process anything so I couldn't do any homework but I slept so much that I just couldn't go to sleep. With all this time on my hands, I decided to binge watch a television show.

binge watching /binj wāching/ (verb): a period of unrestrained, immoderate self-indulgence in the form of watching episodes and episodes of a television show.

Now, I'm not usually much a binge watcher. I usually watch television shows if I'm eating or if I want to unwind, and this is usually spent with Korean dramas, as I'm also taking Korean. This time around, though, I decided to change it up and watch a show recommended by my best friend back home in Hawaii.

Attack on Titan, or 進撃の巨人 (しんげきのきょじん),  is quite possibly one of the coolest shows I've watched recently. I haven't watched much anime since I watched 美少女戦士セーラームーン (Sailor Moon) and カードキャプターさくら (Cardcaptor Sakura) as a child, but しんげきのきょじん definitely made the flu less insufferable for me. The show is based off of a manga and follows a young boy named Eren Jaeger, his adoptive sister Mikasa Ackerman, and his friend Armin Arlert.

The story is set in an alternate universe where the world has been overrun by giant creatures called Titans, causing humanity to live within the confines of three concentric walls. These walls are about 50 meters tall, almost like a wall of Troy type of thing where it can't be penetrated. Humanity has lived in peace within these walls for a century until the Titans break through the outer wall, leading to chaos. A bunch of things happen and Eren, Mikasa, and Armin enlist in the military to fight these titans and preserve humanity. 

There's only twenty-five episodes out, and I binge watched for the weekend, finishing all of the episodes in a weekend. The show is beautifully animated and the plot moves quickly, and there's never a dull moment. I'm also taking an anthropology class on millennial ideas in which shows portray the end of the world and how humanity can be threatened. It ties in perfectly, and I hope more episodes are made because it's such a complex show and I loved it. It's the perfect show to sit indoors and watch, and I was able to comprehend some of the Japanese used. I recommend it!

Why Japanese?

As a senior who would be graduating in about seven and a half months, it seems a bit counterproductive to be taking up a language only now. While that might be partly correct, I'm still quite excited to learn Japanese, and there are many reasons why I'm learning Japanese in the first place. I'm part-Japanese, and I'd like to be able to learn more about my culture. In addition to this, and partly where the inspiration for the URL came from, is that I'm from Hawaii. The largest amount of tourism and influence comes from Japan, and being able to speak Japanese would be a good skill to have in the case I'd like to go home and work in the tourism industry. 

I also want to learn Japanese because I am an East Asian Languages and Cultures major at Columbia. While I'm taking Korean as my language to fulfill my requirements, I'm taking Japanese purely because I want to. I'm enjoying it so far and I can recognize all the Hiragana characters and a good amount of Katakana, but I do have some problems in being able to speak as well as I can read, write, and listen. 

I'm not sure if this helps my case in any way, but I'd like to point out that I make a very delicious ichigo daifuku.
